Job Summary

The School Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of health services across the district, ensuring compliance with state and federal mandates, and supporting the well-being of students. This individual will supervise school nurses, provide guidance on best practices, and serve as a substitute nurse as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

Supervision & Leadership:

  • Provide supervision, support, and guidance to school nurses across all district buildings.
  • Coordinate professional development and training opportunities for nursing staff.
  • Evaluate the performance of school nurses and provide feedback for professional growth.
  • Collaborate with district and school administrators to develop and implement health policies and procedures.

 

Compliance & Health Services Management:

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal health regulations, including immunization requirements, screenings, and reporting.
  • Maintain and update district health policies in accordance with public health guidelines.
  • Monitor student health records and ensure accurate and confidential record-keeping.
  • Serve as the liaison between the school district and local/state health departments.

 

Direct Nursing Support:

  • Provide direct nursing care to students and staff as needed, including serving as a substitute nurse in school buildings.
    Assist in the management of student health emergencies and chronic condition care plans.
  • Support the implementation of individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans for students with specific medical needs.

 

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Act as a resource for school nurses, educators, and families regarding student health concerns.
  • Work closely with special education teams, counselors, and other school personnel to support student health and wellness.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns and policies.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
  • Minimum of 10 years of nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, or public health setting.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of school health regulations, emergency protocols, and best nursing practices.
  • Ability to lead and support a team of healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems and data management.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform computer-based tasks. 
  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and telephones. 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision and hearing abilities sufficient to perform essential job functions. 
  • Must be able to travel between school sites as needed.
  • Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies.
  • Stamina to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed for special events or projects.
  • May involve exposure to illness and communicable diseases.

 

Contract Length:    185 day contract

 

Salary: $62,000+ Commensurate with education and experience
