Piper Middle School has an opening for a Library Media Specialist for the 26-27 school year. Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university with Library Media Specialist Endorsement or ability to qualify for waiver while degree is obtained.
- Current Kansas State Teaching License on file in the central office.
- Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience.
Base salary: $50,750+ commensurate with experience and education based on the salary schedule in the Piper Teachers Association Negotiated Agreement. Full single health insurance paid.
Job Goal: To effectively work and communicate students and staff make full use of the services and resources of the school library program in an effort to accomplish the goals of the district’s educational program.
Essential Job Functions:
- Establish an effective program of library skills education, using time, materials and resources effectively.
- Procure and maintain an appropriate inventory of books, non-book materials, equipment, and supplies for the library.
- Appropriately catalog and supervise the checkout and return of books and materials.
- Monitor overdue books, and contact parents concerning return or payments.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
- Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
- Assist with the activities of student organizations.
- Work with teachers to provide materials necessary for curriculum activities.
- Model for students and others the strategies for locating, accessing, and evaluating information within and beyond the library media center
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
- Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance of library books, textbooks, media and in-library computer equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials.
- Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
- Maintain an attractive physical environment in the library for the purpose of promoting interest in and use of library materials.
- Maintains and strives to improve professional performance and competence.
- Attends staff meetings as required and serves on committees in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
- Observes all policies, rules and regulations of the Board as stated in the policy handbook.
- Observes all rules and regulations of the building to which assigned.
- Performs other duties assigned by the administration.
