Base salary: $50,000+ commensurate with experience and education based on the salary schedule in the Piper Teachers Association Negotiated Agreement. Full single health insurance paid.
Job Goal: Plan and provide music therapy to students with various disabilities. Assess students and plan therapeutic interventions to eliminate or reduce impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assess students with disabilities and determine eligibility for services.
- Plan and provide direct and consultative services consistent with music therapy goals contained in the students’ Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Design, construct, alter and provide students with therapy to promote maximum independence.
- Monitor student progress.
- Participate in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team to assist with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement and goal setting for students according to district policies.
- Skilled and effective in oral and written communication with relevant staff members and parents regarding music therapy strategies to enhance their work with students.
- Provide staff development training to help school personnel understand music therapy’s role in the educational setting.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level, interests, and needs of the student.
- Administer appropriate discipline according to the student code of conduct/procedures established in each classroom.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the music therapy program and implement changes based on the findings.
- Assist with the selection of equipment and materials.
- Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Comply with all district and school routines and regulations.
- Participate in professional development activities to improve skill related to job assignment.
COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
